Defend basic rights!

Work as a student at the university?
For the Humboldt-Uni only without basic rights!

For years Mo worked and studied at the Humboldt-Uni. As a convinced trade unionist he was not only a member of the student staff council (@PRstudB-HU), but also supported the strike of the student employees (#TVstud) in 2018.

During the strike, Mo used #spraychalk to call for the strike at the faculty of law. An unsolidary, reactionary student reported this to the police. Mo removed the strike call shortly after. After the end of the successful strike he was accused by a court of damaging the facade of a university building.

After Mo’s cleaning, the Humboldt University had the façade painted over at great expense. At court she presented a large bill, which Mo paid. In addition, he had to do community service in order to get the criminal proceedings stopped.

But apparently for the Humboldt University’s personnel department it was not enough that Mo cleaned the façade, paid for the repainting of it and did community service. The Humboldt University saw its chance for #UnionBusting. It refused him his continued employment and as a precautionary measure requested his immediate dismissal.

The exercise of a basic right?
No reason for refusal or dismissal!

Mo now tried to enforce his continued employment in court. The proceedings and the employment of Mo ended when Humboldt-Uni bought herself free through a settlement.

Recently Mo applied for a similar job at Humboldt-Uni again. His application was successful and Mo received a job offer. However, the personnel department refused to hire him – ostensibly because of “damage to property” to a Humboldt University building.

On 06.07.2020 Mo is on trial again. Again against the Humboldt-Uni. For the third time. He is still to be punished for exercising his basic rights. This time it is about preventing his employment because of his strike participation. And this time he is not alone in court!

Public service work?
Without renouncing basic rights!

It must be possible everywhere, including the public service – including the Humdoldt University – to work without giving up basic rights at the company gate. Mo is in court, so that workers at the Humboldt-Uni can go on strike again – without fear for the job.

Write to the university management (praesidentin@hu-berlin.de / vph@hu-berlin.de). Tell the personnel department (uwe.eichner@uv.hu-berlin.de, robert.hagedorn@hu-berlin.de) what you think of their action against committed employed students and against basic democratic rights.

At work, in teaching, in research, on the street and in court:
Basic rights must be defended!

We call for solidarity and decisive action against repression. The Humboldt-Uni tries again and again to intimidate committed students and colleagues. The authoritarian course of the Humboldt-Uni must stop. Make clear to the right-wing authoritarian university leaders what is a basic right and what a crime. For a university where everyone can study and work!

Come on 06.07.2020 at 11:15 am to the Labour Court (Magdeburger Platz 1) and support Mo in court by your presence. Show your solidarity with STRIKE-signs (or #spraychalk). #MoStays at the Humboldt-Uni, working as a student!
